Annamaria Westregård – Doctor of Laws and senior lecturer
Doctor of Laws and senior lecturer Annamaria Westregård has taught the course Labour Law for Union Representatives which was developed in collaboration with the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union.
“Many of our participants had respect for university studies, and were nervous in the beginning. It is stressful to take a home exam if you’re not used to it, but most of them did splendidly and their self-confidence grew.”
How was the course in Labour Laws for Union Representatives structured?
“During the course I alternated lectures and with exercises. We had different themes where we talked about discrimination, rehabilitation, and laws regarding termination of employment. Because the participants had a lot of practical experience, I used their experiences and highlighted them in my teaching. We finished off the course with a big moot negotiation and court.”
What experience makes you a good teacher?
“I have worked as a negotiator in the private corporate sector, I am a qualified notary, and I have the procedural experience from serving in court. My own research is within the subject field that I teach: Rehabilitation, the Security of Employment Act (LAS), sickness benefits and privacy. When research and education go together teaching becomes new, relevant and more profound.”
