Graphic profile for online presence and apps
The graphic profile is an important tool in communication work. To support you in your work, the University has a graphics manual with basic rules describing the various building blocks, logotypes, typography, colours, image style and graphic elements.
Templates and graphic design for web pages
Having a common structure and form facilitates navigation on the University’s various web pages and also clearly shows users that the University is behind the content. Lund University’s HTML templates are divided into two versions, one basic template for faculty pages and equivalents and one for department pages and equivalents.
Within the framework of these two basic templates, there is a series of different modules which allow you to create several different variants of pages on the basis of the individual organisation’s needs and wishes. Some modules are specially designed for start pages, and several modules are intended for sub-pages. There is also a collection of examples with inspiration pages showing clear examples of how pages with various kinds of content can be constructed.
The HTML templates, which were produced by the coordinating group SamWeb, are available for download from the University’s Image and Media Bank. When you download a template, you get a package including empty template pages, as well as various modules and sample pages. With the help of the index.html page, included in the package, you can easily click around and look at the various parts.
How to use the templates
It is important that you apply the graphic profile to all material produced on behalf of Lund University, printed as well as digital, both within and outside the University. By using the HTML templates, you ensure that your web pages follow the established format applied to all websites at the University.
Web templates and publishing tools
Various web publishing tools are used within the University. The websites which are included in the University’s shared web solution in Drupal are automatically adapted to the established design. Organisations which have their own web publishing systems and are therefore responsible for implementing the graphic design are referred to the HTML templates.

Consulting external web agencies
If you need to create a design which is not included in the existing templates, for example for some kind of campaign site, you can get help from one of the University’s procured web agencies.
Colours and fonts for use online
Lund University has a broad palette of colours which provides a distinctive and unique visual colour identity. Read the graphics manual to find out the idea behind our profile colours and their intended use.
In order for the profile colours to look good online, they must be adapted to HTML colours (web colours) which consist of the basic colours RGB (Red, Green, Blue) and whose tone values are often stated hexadecimally. The yellow colour has been specially developed for use online and must never appear in printed material.
Typography is an important part of our graphic profile. The fonts are selected to provide a cohesive image of Lund University. Online we use the Georgia and Arial fonts:
- Georgia is a classic font which provides a balance to the otherwise dynamic and modern graphic design; it is used for headings, among other things.
- Arial is an open and legible font which gives a dynamic and modern impression. Its uses include main body text.
Graphic profile in apps
Apps must always be designed according to Lund University’s graphic profile. It is important that both the overall interface in the app and the app icon follow our graphic guidelines for colours, fonts and image style.
- Lund University’s logotype as an app icon is only recommended for University-wide apps.
- Using only the seal as an app icon, whether whole or cut, is not recommended. According to our graphic profile, the seal is to be used as a stamp of quality; applied on its own as an app icon, it says nothing about the content or its originator.
- The Lund University logotype is to be visible within the app and is to be visible as far as possible as a welcome image when the app is launched.
- Always write out Lunds universitet or Lund University in full as the originator in the app’s presentation text in the App store/Google Play/equivalent, in connection with clear information about which part of the University has produced the app.
