Interdisciplinary research environments of particular strategic significance for the University are the focus. If these environments are also linked to several faculties, this is considered an asset. Grants awarded are to cover direct as well as indirect costs.
The research infrastructure that can be considered for central funding is primarily advanced instruments, electronic archives/databases and service staff or support for users for long-term use, maintenance and development of the infrastructure.
If a research infrastructure seeks and receives funding from different sources within the University (at departmental, faculty or university-wide level or another source), this should be done transparently and, if possible, in a coordinated manner.
The call for applications for university-wide research infrastructure funding takes place once a year.
Decisions about the awarding of funding are made by the Vice-Chancellor after preparation by the Research Board and its working group for research infrastructure.
The criteria are laid out in the Administrative Procedure for the University-wide Funding of Research Infrastructure at Lund University (Reg. no STYR 2021/2717). Infrastructure in receipt of funding is to support and enable research of very high academic quality.
