Developing leadership for the future

During the autumn I will be immersed in leadership for the future. Managers and leaders already have good opportunities for professional development. However, I am convinced that we can further sharpen our skills and become even better at equipping current and future leaders.

There is much that we do well at Lund University. Among other things, there are leadership courses and programmes and we are in the process of developing a managers’ forum and a managers’ platform. Cecilia Agrell and Kristian Bergén at HR are the ones mostly involved in the work on leadership matters and I would like at this point to thank all the people who in different ways work to enhance managers’ and leaders’ opportunities.

As leaders, we have a crucial role regarding the work environment and in providing opportunities to create high-quality research, teaching and external engagement. We have a considerable responsibility that requires not only advanced support, but also a high level of preparedness and continuous opportunities for professional development.

During the autumn I will therefore initiate an investigation that aims to provide proposals for what Lund University is to offer in terms of courses and programmes, and development opportunities for managers and leaders. Maria Flores, who works at Lund University Commissioned Education, will lead the project – and I am very pleased about that. I will provide information on progress at a later date.
