EduLab experimental platform to receive continued funding

Two men looking and a screen.

Funding for EduLab – the University’s experimental platform for developing courses and programmes – is being extended until 2026. The aim of EduLab is to provide a fast track for developing new course concepts by linking different parts of the University and finding fruitful collaborations. Off-the-wall ideas are welcome.

EduLab is tasked with meeting the challenges faced by the University in terms of new educational needs, new temporary grants and new course concepts. These may include short courses for professionals that promote lifelong learning, the need for new interdisciplinary Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or new short supplementary courses for our existing students that allow them to benefit from the expertise of the whole University community.

EduLab is a flexible platform for exploring ideas, educational formats, methods and collaborations. The aim of the work is to promote course development through collaboration both externally – with companies, organisations and trade unions – and internally at the University.

EduLab is specifically designed to facilitate the creation of courses that are out of the ordinary and often aimed at target groups other than those we are used to. These include, in particular, professionals who are already established in their careers.

“I love to see innovative educational proposals that simultaneously connect different parts of LU. The breadth we have as a full-scale university is enormous. When we really unlock the possibilities that come with this breadth, we do something that no other education provider can,” says Mikael Sundström, EduLab project manager and senior lecturer in Political Science.

EduLab can help with:

Development of credit-earning courses

EduLab funds the development of a large number of credit-earning courses for lifelong learning. Course ideas should be customised to suit target groups who are in the workforce and seeking continuing professional development to enhance their skills. Previous course ideas have mainly been developed based on initiatives from various networks and individuals. A large network of contacts and support systems has been created that can now be reused.

Educational initiatives beyond credit-earning courses

Another specific project is Short Courses for Professionals: Open for Climate 2.0. This concerns EduLab’s work on a MOOC+ concept. “Plus” indicates the hope that resources being developed can also be used in regular education. To this end, EduLab liaises with various resource clusters located throughout the University. Do you have an educational idea that can be linked to the green transition, climate or environment? You may be eligible for grants and support to develop your own MOOC.

Internal and external analyses

EduLab also conducts internal and external analyses to better understand societal needs and how the University can meet them. One example is a study of how lifelong learning has actually been handled in practice at Lund University and nine other Swedish universities. To improve the matching of demand from prospective students to the range of courses on offer, EduLab also networks with trade unions and employers.

Do you have an idea of your own?

If you have an idea that you would like to test, please contact EduLab. We have contacts, funding and expertise available. Together, we can continue to develop and strengthen Lund University as a leading institution for education and research.
