Is it mandatory to order vegetarian catering? What support is available for staff interested in sustainability? And how many of the Sustainable Development Goals are being achieved globally? There is now an online sustainability course available in Swedish and English.

The course, Introduction to sustainable development and Lund University’s sustainability work, will give you a better understanding of sustainability issues in general and LU’s overall sustainability work in particular. You will also gain knowledge and valuable tools to help you work in a sustainable way in your professional role.

The course consists of five chapters:

  • What is sustainable development? In the first chapter you learn the basics and get a brief history of sustainable development.
  • How is the world working towards sustainable development? An overview of Agenda 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global progress towards the goals.
  • How does LU work towards sustainable development? An overview of the University’s sustainability work, including strategies and activities in research, education and external engagement.
  • How does LU work towards sustainable travel and procurement? A closer look at practical sustainability work at LU, with examples and tips on how you can contribute through your own professional role.
  • Sustainable together. A short concluding chapter with guidance on how to stay updated on sustainability work at the University.

The course is structured as short, easy-to-follow chapters and takes about one hour to complete. Each chapter consists of one or two questions, and there are links to further reading for those who want to find out more.

After completing the course, you will have a broader understanding of sustainable development and insight into how these issues are addressed both globally and at Lund University. You will also be able to download a certificate, and course completion is visible to your manager.

The course has been available in Swedish since spring 2025 and is now also available in English.
