Four projects receive seed funding to integrate arts and culture into education and research

In recent years, Lund University has invested heavily in emphasising the role of culture and the arts in education, research and innovation. To support teaching practitioners in this work, money for seed funding was announced last autumn – a chance to support new projects that will bring culture into the teaching practitioners work in creative ways. In total, 18 exciting applications were received.

In identifying the best projects, the Steering Group for Cultural Collaboration looked at whether the projects clearly integrate culture into education and research, whether they break new ground and are innovative, and whether they involve collaboration with other faculties or universities. This work has now been concluded. Here are the four projects that will receive seed funding:

  • From the Faculty of Social Sciences comes the project "Criminology's Clear Lines", which will use visual arts to strengthen education on the criminology study programme and effectively communicate criminological research.
  • In "The Physics of Opera – tones in light and colours in sound", LTH, the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts, the Faculty of Medicine and the HT Faculties are collaborating to produce material that will use opera singing to increase understanding of sound, light and waves and thus arouse interest in physics.
  • The “LUFT – Art of Air” project is a collaboration between LTH and a composer who will create a music and visual performance for research, teaching and communication about air pollution.
  • Finally, funding has been allocated for the development of a course for teaching staff and researchers on integrating the arts with teaching and research.

A total of SEK 200,000 will be awarded to enable these fantastic projects to grow and develop. We are really looking forward to seeing how these initiatives will help make our education and research even more creative and culturally enriched!”
