IT News: For a smoother 2026, plan your telephony and computing needs

Plan for a change of telephony provider and the freeze on new subscriptions 9 February to 10 March. Allow for longer delivery times for the purchase of mobile phones and computers in 2026.

Change of operator: Plan changes and orders for mobile phone subscriptions

Lund University is implementing a change of operator for telephony services. The existing contract ends in March 2026. The new supplier will be Telia.

An inventory is underway across the University to establish that the current subscriptions are correct. Are all subscriptions in use; do they have the correct user?

When the inventory of existing subscriptions is complete, a final list will be sent to Telia. This will take place on 9 February. From 9 February until the change of supplier is complete on 10 March, there will be a freeze on subscriptions. This means no changes to existing subscriptions or the purchase of new subscriptions will be possible in the period 9 February to 10 March 2026.

Please plan with this in mind and place any orders before 9 February. In exceptional cases, it will be possible to order new subscriptions during the freeze period, if it cannot wait. In such cases, contact supportcenter [at] lu [dot] se for assessment and further processing.

Existing subscriptions will of course work as normal.

More information about the change of telephony supplier

There is a website providing information about the change of supplier, such as:

  • how the change of supplier means that we will no longer use landline phones (Avaya phones) at Lund University, and how to recycle your old phone.
  • what to do if you do not have a work phone but want to make calls.
  • what kinds of subscription will be available after the change. The new standard mobile subscription includes 100 GB of data, which is a significant increase compared to the current allowance.

Long delivery times for computers and mobile phones

Several of the University’s suppliers and manufacturers have warned that the global market for memory, storage and processors is under strain. Increased demand may lead to

  • limited access to computer components
  • higher prices
  • risk of longer lead times throughout 2026.

For computers, price increases of around 10 to 15 per cent are already evident, regardless of the manufacturer. Normal delivery times, already in excess of one month for a new computer, are expected to further increase.

A contributing factor is the huge expansion of AI-related infrastructure, with large stakeholders prioritising investment in data centres. This leads to the supply of memory and storage being largely diverted towards the server market, with personal computers taking something of a back seat.

Bear in mind:

To avoid problems with delivery, place any orders for computers or mobile phones in good time. So, start planning now for any purchases during 2026.
