Learning Hub Syd: A new collaboration and knowledge-sharing platform for climate-neutral cities

Learning Hub Syd is a new initiative that aims to generate and share knowledge about collaborative governance. The hub focuses on developing the cities’ capacity to manage complex climate challenges with other stakeholders. This is done by creating a platform where the cities can work together and benefit from each other’s experiences and knowledge.

The project will be coordinated by Lund University through LU Collaboration, working together with the cities of Helsingborg, Malmö and Lund and their twin cities Höganäs, Höör, Landskrona and Lomma. The project starts in 2025 and runs until 2027.

During this period, the transition team will meet 2-4 times per year at Learning Labs, which will focus on a different theme at each meeting. The work will also be coordinated with the local collaboration initiative Climate-Neutral Cities 2030 – Open Academy, which brings together research expertise from Lund University, Malmö University and SLU in Alnarp. Staff members can get involved by following the process and participating in Learning Labs or other collaborative initiatives that are developed through Learning Hub Syd.

Despite the cities’ ambitious environmental management and ongoing collaboration with industry and academia, there are still structural and methodological challenges that impede the cities from achieving their goals of climate neutrality. As the cities have limited influence over many sources of emissions, collaboration with other stakeholders is crucial. Learning Hub Syd will support the cities in developing their ability to manage these complex issues in an effective way through shared knowledge and process management.

The target group for Learning Hub Syd is mainly cities in southern Sweden that have included this activity in their Viable Cities applications (2025-2027). This means a focus on a few cities, but collaboration and learning can be expanded to include other stakeholders within the framework of the shared goals of climate neutrality.
