Lund Humanities Village – a new hub for external engagement with a humanities perspective

Lux

On 8 May, Lund Humanities Village will be launched at LUX. It is a new initiative designed to make humanities and theological knowledge more accessible, visible and relevant to society. Humanities Village will become a natural hub for collaboration between the University and stakeholders in the cultural sector, the public sector, civil society and the business community.

In an age characterised by rapid social change and complex crises, the need for humanistic and theological perspectives is becoming increasingly apparent. Questions of ethics, culture, language, history, meaning and human behaviour are crucial to understanding and navigating the world we live in today – and to finding sustainable ways forward.

As a hub in the heart of Lund, Lund Humanities Village brings together academic knowledge and practical experience. This creates opportunities for new cooperation initiatives, practice-oriented research questions and joint initiatives in which humanities perspectives contribute to a broader understanding and a better basis for decision-making. This initiative is part of the University’s ambition of becoming a fourth-generation university, where knowledge flows more freely between academia and society.

The aim is to raise the profile of the humanities and make it easier to identify opportunities for cooperation – both within the University and with external partners. Through Humanities Village, the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology aim to strengthen existing links and open the way for new projects, practice-oriented research questions and joint initiatives.

Humanities Village serves as a platform for external engagement and interdisciplinary work. Staff from across the University can use this initiative as a gateway to partnerships with, for example, the cultural sector, public authorities, civil society and the business community.

The initiative can also provide examples of how mentoring and relationships with alumni and the wider working world can be developed to strengthen talent provision and career pathways at the University.

The launch is open to staff across the University and offers an opportunity to get a quick overview of the initiative, meet the people behind it and see examples of “the humanities in practice”. The programme will be in Swedish.
