Lund University Press publishes scholarly books with the aim of making research from Lund University accessible to an international readership. It publishes books written directly in English and translations of books originally written in other languages.
The aim is to develop into a publisher for the whole of Lund University and to reflect the University’s full academic breadth.
“Collaborating with Lund University as a whole in this way makes perfect sense, both for the University and for us as a publisher. To a certain extent, there is a link between a thriving university press and the University’s reputation and ranking,” says Calum Petrie, publishing director at Lund University Press.
Support from concept to completed book
If you wish to publish a book, Lund University Press can support you from concept to finished book through a publishing process that includes quality review, editorial support and the option of Open Access. To ensure scientific quality, the publisher uses a peer review process and offers professional guidance. Publication takes place in cooperation with Manchester University Press, which can help to increase international visibility and reach.
What kind of book projects is the publisher seeking?
As Lund University Press opens up to the entire University, the range of books it publishes will also expand.
“Now that we’re opening up to the rest of the University, we need to be open-minded about the kinds of books we publish. Can we publish popular science? Short introductions? Should we have series? It's an exciting time,” says Calum Petrie.
At the same time, the publisher is keen to continue producing monographs and edited volumes of high academic quality, a field in which it has enjoyed great success.
“The strategic research areas (SRAs) are something we should look into more closely. This also applies to areas in which Lund University is a particular leader, such as sustainability and human rights. We would very much like to cooperate with these types of subject areas,” says Calum Petrie.
How to submit a book proposal
If you would like to submit a book proposal, you can do so using the form on the Lund University Press website. You are also welcome to contact Calum Petrie or any of the members of the publisher’s editorial board directly for an initial chat over a cup of coffee.
“Many outstanding books have started out as a vague idea. But completed manuscripts are naturally always welcome,” says Calum Petrie.
