We are launching an AI course for all staff as the semester gets underway. It is a basic course, aimed at those who are new to the field of AI. It will provide practical insights into how AI can be used at work and be suitable for those new to the subject. You'll learn the basics, how to use AI responsibly and about effective prompt design. The course will be available in Kompetensportalen at the start of the semester (a separate news item is coming soon). Further training on digital tools and AI will be offered in autumn, so you will be able to find the option that suits you best.
I know that many of us are already using AI in everyday life. For researchers, support is available from the Research Data Office (RDO), while support for teaching staff is available in the form of tips and tools gathered on the Unit for Educational Services’ website: education.lu.se. Running in parallel, a remit under the Education Board aims to develop a proposal for coherent work in the use of AI with a particular focus on education issues.
But we want to go further. The Ad hoc group represents a broader approach to support all staff, whatever their role. This is not just about technology, it's also about creating confidence, curiosity and a shared understanding of how we can use AI wisely and sustainably.
Things are moving fast, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But this is something we are doing together, step by step. At the same time, we need to be aware that we are a public authority, which means we need to take into account laws, regulations, ethics and security in everything we do.
We should not be trying to do it all – but we should be curious, open and strategic in our thinking. Predicting exactly where AI developments are heading, even in the near future, is not possible. However, with the Ad hoc group in place, along with AI Lund, the Division of IT and other units, we now have an opportunity to follow developments and navigate wisely.
It's going to be an exciting autumn and I'm very much looking forward to us making this journey together!
