LU’s 350th anniversary celebrations are now drawing to a close, but certain projects will keep going, along with the working method known as the jubilee model. Two ways of reaching out with our knowledge

This year is an election year and, in Torbjörn von Schantz’s view, it is particularly important to reach out with research-based knowledge. The Conversation is one way for researchers to reach out; now LU’s membership in it is being made permanent. The jubilee has also strongly contributed to opening up the University to wider society.

Malmö University mainly brings benefits

Another university in the region reinforces the higher education sector in our part of the country and reduces the distance to Stockholm, according to Torbjörn von Schantz, who congratulated our new neighbour. LU gets its own think tank

LU Futura is the name of the interdisciplinary think tank now being established as an independent division at the Pufendorf Institute. Here, the societal issues of the future will be identified and formulated with perspectives from all of LU’s disciplinary fields. Lynn Åkesson and Marie Cronqvist will lead the initiative and are now gathering their team, which is to consist of around ten people. Read more in the next issue of LUM.

Donation campaign reaches the finish line

LU’s donation campaign, “For a Better World”, which ends on 28 January, has achieved its overall financial goal of SEK three billion, and then some. Researchers, faculties, the University Management and support units have all contributed to the campaign, but also many organisations and individuals, donating anything from small sums to millions.

Redesigned image bank gets new functions

The image bank containing just over 15 000 images, templates and logotypes, is now easier to search and features new functions. A cropping tool allows you to download your image in the right size and resolution, and it is now easier to share images with others. The image bank is also available in an English version. New health and exercise courses for LU employees

The Active LU employee course is now starting up and will provide LU employees with a common three-month exercise programme and lectures about diet, sleep and stress at Gerdahallen sports facility. Various tests are included, allowing participants to measure their progress. In February, the Active Senior programme will also begin, with the aim of getting physically inactive people, aged 65 to 70 and associated with LU, to exercise regularly.
