For those eligible for the award, applications open 1 February 2025.

In previous years, the ceremony has been held in spring. The Vice-Chancellor has now decided that the awards ceremony is to be held every 18 months instead of annually, in order to cut costs. This means that no ceremony will take place in 2026.

The award for long and devoted service is given to those who have completed 30 years of service as government employees. This can be in several workplaces, as long as they are all government employers. Special rules apply if, for example, you were to retire before completing 30 years of service ‒ in which case, 25 years is sufficient to receive the award.
