Opportunities and challenges of European collaboration on education

LU intends to extend and broaden its commitment to the European university initiative EUGLOH. Work on writing an application for continued European university collaboration beyond 2022 started just before Christmas.

The EUGLOH initiative is now in its third and final year within the framework of the EU’s first pilot round. The continued collaboration will build on our existing EUGLOH European university initiative and expand to include four new partner universities (Alcala, Hamburg, Novi Sad and Tromsö).

Lund University plans to continue to coordinate the part of the project that deals with common courses and other educational activities of various scopes and formats. Here, I see exciting opportunities for synergies with the work that has started at LU on interdisciplinary education and lifelong learning, for example. I also hope that the collaboration will increase opportunities for both physical and virtual mobility, internationalisation at home and more research collaboration.

Lund University is an international university and it is important to continue to look outward and learn from the surrounding world, not least in Europe. There are many topical and important EU issues to discuss. The Centre for European Studies at Lund University illustrates this in the podcast series ‟From Lund to Brussels – a podcast on the future of the EU” In episode 4: From Lund to Brussels: Does the EU need a common education area? the panel, consisting of Johan Östling, Kristina Miolin and myself, discusses international collaborations and the practical implications of the EU’s plans for a common education area.

On the podcast, we discuss the opportunities and challenges of European collaboration and, more specifically, LU’s participation in the EUGLOH European university initiative.
