Our university-wide support for international recruitment is much appreciated and unique

According to our Platform for Strategic Work, we are to endeavour to be an international university and strive to recruit the best staff from all over the world. However, recruiting staff from other countries is complicated. There are many rules and laws to consider if everything is to be done correctly, particularly in the area of migration.

I am therefore proud that we offer much appreciated support on these matters – we are among the few higher education institutions in Sweden that do this. At the Division of External Relations and the HR Division there are staff who work on these issues, for example we have an international coordinator who is an expert on HR-related migration law. They cooperate closely with the Swedish Migration Agency concerning migration matters and their duties involve providing advice and support to the organisation on migration issues as well as working proactively nationally for migration legislation that promotes the University’s internationalisation.

Working proactively to support international staff is wholly in line with the University’s work on Global Dynamic Engagement (GDE) and the importance of the University being a strong and positive force in the global arena.

The aim is for the University to offer legally sound, secure and consistent processes relating to migration.

Organisational changes in the Central Administration

There are a number of ongoing organisational changes in the Central Administration which enter into force on 1 April 2025. The Division of External Relations will be wound up and the new Division of Global Engagement will be formed. The newly recruited head of division is Richard Stenelo. The current head of the Division of External Relations, Margareta Nordstrand, will initially remain in the new division and then retire after the summer.

LU Estates will also have a new head of division, Veronica Gummesson, who replaces Åsa Bergenudd when she retires. And, as previously reported, Corporate Communication will also undergo changes.
