Proposal for new governance structure in Helsingborg

Lund University is proposing changes to how operations in Helsingborg are managed. The background to this is that it is not always clear who is responsible for what, and that there is sometimes overlap between different parts of the organisation.

The aim is to make governance simpler and more cohesive, so that what already works well can be further developed. At the same time, strategic leadership is to be strengthened, with a continued focus on interdisciplinarity, collaboration and innovation. Responsibility for education and research remains with the faculties.

– We want to create clearer conditions for the work already being done in Helsingborg. It is about making responsibilities and mandates more comprehensible and providing better support for future development and collaboration, says Lena Eskilsson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chair of the Board of Campus Helsingborg.

This is what is proposed

The proposed decision entails that:

  • The title of the chief representative will be changed from Rector to Senior advisor to the Vice-Chancellor from 1 January 2027
  • The intention is that the Board of Campus Helsingborg will be replaced by a steering group with a clear remit and mandate from 1 January 2027, and that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor will be tasked with submitting, by 30 September 2026 at the latest, a proposal for a new model for management and governance, including the Senior advisor to the Vice-Chancellor’s remit, the steering group’s remit, composition and mandate, and a possible new name for Campus Helsingborg

Responsibility for education and research shall remain with the faculties.
The Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström, plans to take a position on the proposal on 18 June.

The way forward

The proposal includes a mandate for Deputy Vice-Chancellor Lena Eskilsson to draw up proposals on how management and governance should function going forward. This includes, among other things, the remit of the proposed steering group and the Senior advisor to the Vice-Chancellor, as well as a possible new name for the operations in Helsingborg.

“We want to create a clearer structure that supports the work already being done in Helsingborg and provides better conditions for further developing the operations,” says Lena Eskilsson.

Proposals must be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor by 30 September 2026. A decision will then be made on the future structure of management and governance. In the meantime, operations will continue as usual.
