Remote work for teaching staff, researchers and associate researchers

Lund University is a campus-based university where teaching and research are primarily carried out on campus. At the same time, remote work can be a valuable complement in certain situations.

The University has had guidelines on remote work for technical and administrative staff since 2021. There are now also guidelines that set out the remote work conditions for teaching staff, researchers and associate researchers. The guidelines apply as of 1 October 2026.

What applies for teaching staff, researchers and associate researchers:

  • Remote work is an option, not a right. Your manager assesses what is feasible based on the organisation’s needs and the nature of the duties.
  • You must be available and present at work to the extent required under the working hours agreement applicable to your position and the needs of the organisation. Find out more about your working hours agreement via the links further down the page.
  • No written agreement with your manager is required for remote work within Sweden.

What applies regarding remote work from another country

  • Remote work from another country is only permitted in two specific situations:
    • If you commute daily from Denmark.
    • If you occasionally work remotely for a short period (1-2 weeks) within the EU/EEA.
  • If you are working remotely on an occasional basis for a short period (1-2 weeks) within the EU/EEA, you will need a written agreement with your manager.
  • You are responsible for looking into matters relating to tax, social security and private insurance cover.
