For LU, this means we gain access to further co-funding in order to host more threatened researchers. At present, LU is the host for two SAR researchers. Pär Svensson at External Relations is LU’s representative at SAR Sweden.
Academic freedom around the world is being increasingly restricted and the result is that researchers are finding it more difficult to carry out their work. Scholars at Risk is an international network that charts and highlights restrictions on academic freedom and attacks on higher education authorities. Through SAR, researchers whose academic freedom is threatened gain access to an academic haven at a foreign higher education institution.
The Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation has previously granted SEK 6 million to co-fund up to 50 per cent of the costs of researcher placements in the humanities and social sciences. To mark the chair of the board Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg leaving her position, the foundation has chosen to support SAR Sweden with a further SEK 5 million. The Swedish higher education institutions in the network can thus continue to apply for co-funding for the hosting of SAR researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
