Freedom of Thought – from Copernicus to the Celestial Carnival

Are you curious about science? Do you appreciate the Lund student carnival tradition? Then you are more than welcome to the University Library’s new exhibition! Here you’ll experience science and humour in an unexpected combination.

The University Library has recently rediscovered its copy of Nicolaus Copernicus’s famous work “On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres”. The library is celebrating this with an exhibition that ties in with the 2026 Lund Carnival and its celestial theme. 

The exhibition highlights freedom of thought – in both science and humour – and has been created in collaboration with the Academic Society’s archives and the Celestial Carnival committee.

Be entertained by historical and contemporary carnival material that pokes fun at authority. And be fascinated by groundbreaking astronomical works from the 16th and 17th centuries. Come and be inspired by a long tradition where free thought, questioning and laughter take centre stage.
