Science to Schools 2026 Outreach Programme – Call for Researchers
Every discovery has a story — and this fall, we invite you to help share those stories with middle school students across Skåne.
Date: Tuesday, October 20
Location: Middle schools across Skåne
Target Audience: Lund University researchers at all career levels and all scientific backgrounds
Science to Schools is a science outreach initiative that connects researchers with local middle classrooms to spark curiosity, share research journeys, and show students early on that there are many pathways that lead into science. We target young students, ages 11-13 to open their minds to science before entering gymnasium. During a two hour visit, participants speak about their work, answer questions, and help students see science as something creative, accessible, and full of possibilities.
To reduce barriers for schools to participate, Science to Schools offers a structured programme including an introduction to careers as a researcher, popular science talks from participating researchers, and the classroom favorite—“meet the scientist,” an informal Q&A session about science.
We are now seeking researchers interested in joining the 2026 programme. Researchers from across Lund University, including all scientific disciplines and career stages, are welcome. No previous outreach experience is required, just an interest in engaging young learners. To participate, all that is needed is to prepare a 5-minute popular science presentation.
By taking part, you can:
- Support our local community through meaningful outreach
- Increase visibility for your field and research
- Strengthen your outreach and communication skills
- Connect with colleagues across SRAs and Lund University
This is a great opportunity to show young learners what science looks like, and the diverse individuals who contribute to it.
About the Programme:
The Science to Schools programme is a collaborative initiative led by Lund Stem Cell Center and the Strategic Research Area (SRA) StemTherapy, in collaboration with several of the SRAs at Lund University and the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine.
The programme targeting middle schools began in 2023. In 2025, the Science to Schools programme visited four middle schools with 25 participating researchers, reaching an estimated 150 young students. Both participating researchers and schools have described the programme as interactive, valuable, and fun.
