Description

The ubiquitin-proteasomal system (UPS) plays a crucial role in regulating the levels of most cellular proteins. This intricate system involves approximately 5% of coding genes, with substrate specificity ensured by a diverse group of 650 E3 ubiquitin ligases. These E3 ligases precisely transfer ubiquitin to their target proteins through a process known as ubiquitination, which governs essential cellular functions such as the cell cycle, signalling, and the DNA damage response. Using hematopoietic stem cells as a model, we explore how the UPS system influences stem cell fate decisions. Additionally, we are developing targeted protein degradation-based tools for research applications as well as to eliminate the cancer-associated proteins that are currently inaccessible to conventional drugs.
