Description

The Urban Systems and Dynamics group, led by Prof. Nik, advances the boundaries of Building Physics to explore the complex interactions between buildings, urban systems, and climate. Our research focuses on designing and optimizing strategies for buildings and urban systems (with a big focus on energy systems) that drive the sustainable urban transition and enhance the built environment's resilience to climate change. We address multi-dimensional challenges such as energy efficiency, climate extremes, urban microclimates, indoor and outdoor comfort, human health, and well-being. We aim to develop innovative solutions that foster both sustainability and adaptability in urban environments. We conduct our research by implementing and developing different physics-based and data-driven approaches. We have developed cutting-edge approaches for climate resilience assessment, building and urban physics simulations, energy system optimization and control, and impact assessment of climate change.
