Description

The Microbial Evolutionary Genetics (MEG) Lab studies how microbial populations adapt to environmental, including clinical, pressures, with a particular focus on antibiotic resistance. The group combines experimental evolution, molecular microbiology, genomics and bioinformatics to investigate the genetic and ecological mechanisms that drive rapid microbial adaptation. A central approach is the use of experimentally tractable synthetic microbial communities, which allow controlled investigation of evolutionary dynamics within interacting multispecies systems. By linking evolutionary processes with microbial interactions and community structure, our work aims to better understand how resistance and other clinically relevant traits emerge and spread in complex microbial communities.
