University-wide partnerships
In recent years, university-wide partnerships have become a new way of cooperating on internationalisation of higher education and research, with an increasing trend towards closer partnerships. Today, Lund University is involved in several strategic partnerships.
University of Nottingham
The University of Nottingham (UoN) is a public research-intensive university in Nottingham, UK, that also has campuses in Semenyih (Malaysia) and Ningbo (China). UoN is organised into five different faculties (Arts, Engineering, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science, and Social Sciences), including more than 50 schools, departments and research centres. UoN has approximately 44 000 students and 9 000 employees.
The University of Nottingham is a member of the U21 network, and is ranked among the top 30 universities in the UK and Europe, and is considered to be one of the top universities in the world. UoN became Lund University’s first strategic partner and the partnership agreement between our two universities was renewed in May 2017 for another five years.
Universität Hamburg
With more than 42 000 students, Universität Hamburg is one of Germany’s largest universities, combining versatile education with outstanding research. Universität Hamburg is comprised of eight faculties: Law; Business, Economics and Social Sciences; Medicine; Education; Humanities; Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences; Psychology and Human Movement; and Business Administration. Lund University and Universität Hamburg signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in 2016.

Call for applications for seed funding 2020 – decision
The call for seedfunding for collaboration in research and education with Universität Hamburg was closed on 15 January 2020. Applications have been evaluated by an assessment group (four evaluators from LU and three from UHH) and decisions have been made for funding for six projects.

University of Maryland College Park
University of Maryland (UMD) is a public, research-intensive university. UMD has two campuses: College Park, located close to Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Lund University has entered into a university-wide partnership with College Park Campus.
UMD College Park has around 41,000 students studying 97 undergraduate programmes, 113 Master's Programmes and 84 Doctoral Programmes; 4,500 employees and 388,000 alumni.
College Park has 14 colleges and schools:

University of Maryland College Park is a member of the U21 network. According to Times Higher Education, UMD is ranked 75 in the USA (US College Rankings 2020) and 90th in the world (World University Rankings 2021).
Collaboration with UMD
LU and UMD signed an agreement for student exchange in 2015 and have exchanged 50 students in the past 5 years.
To date, researchers have co-published 56 journal articles, created the Fire Safety Global Consortium (along with other U21 members), and participated in staff mobility exchange programmes, like the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme.

University of Toronto
University of Toronto (UoT) is a public, research-intensive university. UoT has three campuses: St. George, Mississauga (in the West) and Scarborough (in the East) located in Toronto.
UoT has around 93,000 students studying over 700 undergraduate programmes and over 300 graduate programmes; 22,200 employees and 607,000 alumni. In 2019, $1.38 billion research funds awarded to the UoT.

LU and UoT signed an agreement for student exchange in 2000 and have exchanged 152 students in the past 5 years.
To date, researchers have co-published 277 joint articles, participated in staff mobility exchange programmes, like the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme, and launched projects funded by the EU and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond.
