Per Wickenberg, Senior Professor of Sociology of Law
"YOU SEE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE IN NEW CONTEXTS"
Per Wickenberg, Senior Professor at the Sociology of Law Department at Lund University, has decades of knowledge and experience in education. In 2002 he was asked by LUCE to participate in the planning and execution of a programme on behalf of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) called Child Rights Classroom and School Management, and he accepted. Alongside this, he created, together with LUCE among others, the Work Environment College which aims to further train professionals in work environment issues.
As an academic and educator, Per Wickenberg has always worked on combining theory and practice. For this reason, he chose to work with and be involved in creating commissioned education. Per Wickenberg has now passed the baton for the Work Environment College, but is still a mentor in the Child Rights programme. The effects of the programme are many.
– I have learned so much from the 600 people from 25-26 countries I've met through the Child Rights programme. I have seen the effects on both my research and my learning perspective. You become more and more trained when you see different cultures, learn what works and what doesn’t. My research has definitely been enriched by my meetings with other people.
To maintain the contacts and the experience gained from the 12 year long Child Rights programme, he has been one of 30 participants in establishing the cross-sectoral Child Rights Institute at Lund University.
– It would be a shame not to try to maintain the experience and contacts of the hundreds of people who participated. In order for the work for change to continue, it required a base at Lund University. The Faculty of Social Sciences then opened up for this new institute.
Furthermore, Per Wickenberg considers commissioned education to be a collaborating party that benefits the world around us.
– All universities should have a function for commissioned education. It is only reasonable that the knowledge generated at a university should get back to the citizens.
