Responsibility and organisation

The vice-chancellor has the overall responsibility for the quality of education at the University. In accordance with the rules of procedure for Lund University, the faculty board has the overall responsibility for the quality enhancement work within its organisation. This responsibility is clarified in the Regulations on quality assurance and quality enhancement at Lund University. 

The pro vice-chancellor for third-cycle education, widening participation, and quality assurance and enhancement has an overall perspective and acts as a link between the vice-chancellor’s office, the Education Board, the Research Programmes Board and the Quality and Evaluation office, as well as external forums and collaborations.

The university-wide Education Board has the overall responsibility for strategic matters of education at Lund University, including quality matters. The Education Board’s operational plan for 2019 describes the current focus areas.

The Research Programmes Board deals with strategic third-cycle education matters that are university-wide and therefore not at the faculty-level. The Research Programmes Board handles quality matters relating to third-cycle studies, and is primarily a preparatory and advisory body. The vice-chancellor may delegate decisions on certain issues to the board.

The Quality and Evaluation Office in the Division of Student Affairs offers advice and support on quality assurance in education, and develops methods and tools within the field. The office is also responsible for facilitating knowledge and experience exchange between the faculties, as well as carrying out university-wide investigations that provide empirical documentation for the quality assurance work.

Training and development in teaching and learning in higher education is carried out in several locations across Lund University. The responsibility lies with the faculties and several faculties have their own units for training in teaching and learning in higher education. At the University, there is also a Division for Higher Education Development (AHU), which offers university-wide training in teaching and learning in higher education and conducts higher education development and research.
