Lund University, together with Uppsala University, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Universidad de Chile, has created a platform aimed at increasing cooperation in higher education between Sweden and Chile.

Announcement – travel grants for cooperation with Chile

The third ACCESS seminar that was planned to take place in Uppsala/Stockholm in December 2019 has been postponed to 8-11 June 2020. The seminar will be held in Uppsala/Stockholm and LU hereby announces 10 travel grants of SEK 7,500 for LU researchers who want to participate in the seminar. Twelve subject areas/societal challenges have been identified for this year's seminar (see below). These subject areas should be regarded as relatively open where together they construct and discuss a way forward for further cooperation. The website contains key words and contact information for the responsible researchers for each workshop.

More information on the topic areas for the 2020 seminar can be found on the project website

If you have already been granted funding for the canceled forum, you do not need to apply again.

Our estimate is that about 200 researchers from Chile and Sweden will participate, plus research funders from both countries.

Fill in the application form, print it and send a scanned copy to access [at] er [dot] lu [dot] se no later than 12 February 2020.

ACCESS seminar 2-5 December 2019 in Uppsala/Stockholm is postponed until June 2020

Due to the deep social crisis that Chile is currently undergoing, where nationwide protests and recurrence of important infrastructure characterised the country in the past month, the ACCESS steering group* has decided to postpone the planned seminar in 2019. The steering committee's position is that it is not reasonable to hold a Swedish-Chilean research seminar in Sweden while Chile is undergoing one of its biggest societal crises in its modern history.

*The steering group for ACCESS consists of:

  • Lund University (permanent member)
  • Uppsala University (permanent member)
  • Universidad de Chile (permanent member)
  • Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (permanent member)
  • Stockholm University (rotating member)
  • Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (rotating member)
  • Universidad de Magallanes (rotating member)

What does ACCESS offer?

Through the ACCESS platform, a possibility is given to identify and collectively discuss solutions on common challenges for both Chile and Sweden. Every year a bilateral research seminar is held (every second year in Sweden and every second year in Chile) where a broad spectrum of societal challenges is discussed in workshops. The goal is to facilitate a creative dialogue between researchers from both countries. Until now researchers from all faculties of Lund University have been engaged and it has resulted in new collaborations and mobility between Lund and Chilean higher education institutions. The target group is researchers who are interested in initiating new collaborations or strengthen ongoing actions with Chile. Today, ACCESS is a consortium of 15 universities in both Chile and Sweden.
