Ingrid Petersson is the new Chairperson of Lund University

On 27 April, the Government decided that Ingrid Petersson will be the new Chairperson of Lund University. She has had a long career in the public sector and on boards and among other roles has been Director General of the Formas research council (2013-2022). Ingrid Petersson took up the position on 1 May 2023.

“Lund University is a strong research university and Ingrid Petersson is warmly welcomed. Her broad experience of working in, and with, research councils, the higher education sector, policy-making, public authorities and industry is very valuable. I look forward to our collaboration and developing Lund University together in the coming years,” says Lund University’s Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström.

“This is a period in which we face many global challenges and research, education and innovation are crucial for society’s capability to manage these challenges and achieve a digital and green transition. Lund University offers a broad range of subjects with interdisciplinarity and strong research environments and has a high ranking internationally. The University stands out in international comparisons with the research infrastructures MAX IV and ESS at Brunnshög and the University’s establishment in Science Village. Ingrid Petersson completed an international Master’s degree in Economics at Uppsala University in 1982 and has subsequently had a long career in Swedish public administration. Among other positions, she has been First Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, and State Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture. For four years in the early 2000s, she was Director General of the National Social Insurance Board, and she has also worked in the private sector in Astra Zeneca’s global research organisation.

Ingrid Petersson is also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Royal Swedish Agricultural Academy.

Petersson has had, and continues to have, several board roles, she is currently a board member of the Swedish Forest Agency. Her previous roles include positions on the board at the National Board of Health and Welfare, Swedish Public Employment Service, Swedish Tourist Association and Stockholm Environment Institute. She has also been the Chairperson of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

At present, Ingrid Petersson is the Chairperson for Swedish Government Office inquiries focusing on enhanced food security and the efficient organisation of state research funding.

Ingrid Petersson succeeds Jonas Hafström.
