Working hours
On this page you can read more about how working hours are regulated at Lund University.
Technical and administrative staff are normally covered by the flexitime agreement and get a day off on ‘squeeze days’ between a public holiday and a weekend. Working hours are also reduced on the day before certain public holidays. There are separate rules for teaching staff, as well as for some other staff covered by specific agreements.
Annual working hours for teaching staff
Teaching staff are to plan their annual working hours in consultation with their line manager on a duties plan. There are separate rules on working hours for teaching staff. Teaching assistants, clinical assistants and doctoral students also have annual working hours.

Annual working hours for researchers (excluding researchers at MAX IV, where negotiations are planned for 2026)
As a researcher or assistant researcher, your main task is to conduct research, but time may also be set aside for other tasks within your annual working hours, and the planning of your working hours must be documented in an appropriate manner.

Flexitime for technical and administrative staff
Technical and administrative staff are covered by the flexitime agreement. You are responsible for registering your working hours.
Please note that teaching staff are not covered by the flexitime agreement.

Registration of fixed part-time working hours
Fixed part-time working hours mean that you work less than five days a week on average.

Reduced working hours, "squeeze days" and non-working days for technical and administrative staff
Technical and administrative staff who are covered by the flexitime agreement get a day off on ‘squeeze days’ – days between a public holiday and a weekend. Working hours are also reduced on the day before certain public holidays.
Please note that teaching staff do not get a day off on squeeze days. Neither do teaching staff work reduced hours the day before a public holiday.

Irregular working hours
When an organisation needs to have employees on duty every day, regardless of weekends, public holidays or similar, this is called irregular working hours.

Standby duty
Standby duty at Lund University is governed by local collective bargaining agreements. Standby duty is used as a means to prevent and remedy situations that could otherwise result in operational disruptions or damage.

Are you paid by the hour and employed on a short-term temporary basis?
To receive your salary you are to
- register your working hours in Primula no later than the first calendar week of the month after you have completed your hours,
- register the correct hours on the days you actually worked, as agreed,
- submit all the hours worked each month collectively once a month.
