New support for sustainable innovations

Collage with the university building.

A new fund will finance projects that promote sustainable development and reduce the University’s impact on the climate. By supporting ideas at an early stage, research can contribute to a positive societal transition. SEK 12 million has been allocated to the fund and applications can be made by researchers and students at the University.

Lund University has big goals to reduce the negative impact on the climate and environment of its operations. At the same time, there is great potential to harness new ideas and use our organisations as test beds for developing sustainable solutions for society as a whole. Starting in autumn 2022, all students and staff will have the opportunity to apply for funding for the development of ideas from the university-wide fund. The fund will support ideas in all aspects of sustainability, including ecological, social and economic aspects.

A total of SEK 12 million has been earmarked for the fund to cover the period 2022-2024. In the long-term, the fund will be financed by a fee associated with each organisation’s total climate footprint. In the start-up phase, funding will come from the Akademihemman Foundation, a foundation that manages agricultural properties that have been owned by the University for centuries.

FACTS:

The Sustainability Fund will support improvement, innovation and creation by:

  • Enabling Lund University to act as a test bed for new solutions.
  • Supporting the development of ideas by students and employees.

For students

The support takes the form of grants that allow you to work full-time on your idea for 3 months during the summer. In addition, business coaching, workshops and a place in the VentureLab incubator are also offered.

For researchers

Two types of support are available for research ideas and projects in the field of sustainability. Part of the support is designed as funding for early-stage ideas, development and testing. Another part of the support can be used for verification and validation of the needs of wider society, for innovation projects that originate from research at Lund University. Researchers can apply for up to SEK 150,000 per project.
