A lot going on in education

Students sitting discussing.

The University’s work on education has entered an exciting phase, with several important initiatives currently underway. The Education Board has begun work on the Plan of Operations for 2026, which ties in with the University’s revised Education Strategy for 2025-2027.

Digitalisation within education and teaching remains a priority. On 11 December the Vice-Chancellor decided on a university-wide AI policy, formulated in close cooperation with the Education Board. The policy forms an important springboard and will be followed by central guidelines for education in spring 2026. Initiatives for professional development and a remit for the teaching and learning in higher education units are also expected, as well as the continued implementation of the Framework for Pedagogical Recognition.

Among the projects in progress under Education in transition is an investment in “X-courses” in 2026. These will include established courses and completely new elements. During the year, two cross-faculty Master’s programmes will also be launched: Innovation and Societal Change (in collaboration with CIRCLE) and Comprehensive Defence and Civil Preparedness (in collaboration with LUPREP). In addition, an international Master’s programme in Societal Resilience and Comprehensive Defence is planned for the autumn semester in 2027. All three are one-year programmes and are taught at Campus Helsingborg.

Another milestone in 2026 will be the launch of A unified web experience for education, which goes live in February. Lots of people have been involved in the development work at various levels and made an impressive contribution. Being able to launch this shared project soon feels exciting and inspiring!

And, if that wasn’t enough: the Government has recently announced an investment of SEK 30 million to allow more universities to establish Master’s programmes in public administration with a focus on the EU. Lund University already has a strong profile within EU-related research and education, with several existing Master’s programmes in the field. We are now taking the next step – setting out an even clearer EU profile in the shape of an EU Academy. In February we will submit our application to take part in the Government’s new initiativ.
