“Artistic expression can capture the unspoken, challenge established ways of thinking and promote both creative and critical thinking. It can lay the foundations for societal innovations and technological breakthroughs. That is why it is particularly pleasing to welcome this initiative, which strengthens Lund University’s position in a growing international context where artistic research and expression are playing an increasingly prominent role in academia,” says Erik Renström, Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.
“The investment that the Anders Sandrew Foundation is now making in Lund University is a tremendous honour for the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts. The investment in film at the Theatre Academy is in line with our future strategy and will also have a positive impact on the work across the entire faculty,” says Santino Resić, dean of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts.
The initiative will be of great significance for external collaboration with industry and society, as well as for the university’s work on internationalisation.
The donation initially amounts to SEK 50 million spread over five years, with a strong possibility of extension for at least a further five years. The initiative comprises two professorships, two adjunct professorships, two postdocs and a director.
The University is now establishing a new interdisciplinary centre for research, education and external collaboration in theatre, drama, film and fiction. The initiative has been made possible by a donation of SEK 50 million from the Anders Sandrew Foundation.
