The UK’s participation in Erasmus+ means that British students, staff, education institutions and organisations will be treated on the same terms as their counterparts in EU member states and other third countries that are members. The same applies to students, staff, education institutions and organisations in the EU looking to apply to the UK.
For Lund University, the agreement opens up new opportunities to develop and strengthen partnerships with higher education institutions in the UK. Participation in Erasmus+ creates better opportunities for student and staff exchanges, joint educational initiatives and collaboration on new forms of teaching and learning. This strengthens the University’s international academic environment and contributes to the continued exchange of knowledge within a European context.
“The UK’s return to Erasmus+ is very welcome news. For Lund University, this presents new opportunities to strengthen our international partnerships and develop mobility and educational collaborations, in line with our strategy for global engagement,” says Richard Stenelo, head of the Division of Global Engagement.
Background
In addition to the 27 EU member states, the following third countries currently participate in the Erasmus+ programme: Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey. Both the United Kingdom and Switzerland are set to participate as of 1 January 2027.
