Degrees and recognition processes and provides support related to degrees
Degrees and recognition is part of Student Affairs and processes applications for degrees, informs students about degree-related issues and evaluates foreign academic qualifications that may be included in a degree.
Some staff members also work for the Virtual Organisation (VO), which is coordinated by the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR), on a full-time or part-time basis. Their work primarily involves assessing foreign qualifications for international master's admissions, as well as for other admission cycles. The unit coordinates Lund University's participation in the VO.
Additionally, the unit provides administrative support for cases relating to the recognition of prior learning for credit transfer.
Please note that enquiries regarding degrees at the Faculty of Medicine, third-cycle degrees at the Faculty of Law, and first- and second-cycle degrees at the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) are handled by the respective faculties.

Digital degree certificates
Degree certificates are issued digitally. The applicant will receive a notification by email when the degree has been issued and the degree certificate is then available for download from Ladok as an electronically-stamped PDF. The degree certificate can be downloaded from Ladok an unlimited number of times and the student/alum can then send their degree certificate digitally to employers and other higher education institutions, for example. The electronic stamp confirms that it comes from a credible source and the content of the degree certificate is locked once it has been issued. Degrees and recognition provides certified paper copies when necessary.
Applying for degrees – the process
Students and doctoral students must themselves request to have their degree issued once they finish their studies. Most degrees can be applied for at www.student.ladok.se
Students who do not have a student account and who are applying for degrees covered by the 1993 Qualifications Ordinance may apply on paper.
Processing times
A degree application is normally processed within 60 days, but it usually takes less time than that.
Verifying degree information
A degree can be verified through a sharing function in Ladok. By logging into Ladok for students, a person who holds a degree at a Swedish higher education institution can retrieve a verification code that can be passed on to a recipient, such as an employer. The code allows the recipient to see the details of the degree issued and the courses included.
You may also send a digital degree certificate as an electronically stamped PDF file to an employer or another higher education institution, for example. This applies to degrees issued after 15 April 2024.
