National reviews
The Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) is tasked with evaluating the quality of higher education and research. The government assigns UKÄ's remit. The national quality assurance system is based on the higher education institutions taking considerable individual responsibility for their own internal quality assurance.
The Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) carries out four types of reviews to ensure quality in Swedish higher education:
At Lund University this primarily concerns study programmes leading to professional qualifications. The University can independently decide on other study programmes.
Institutional reviews of the HEIs' quality assurance processes focus on how satisfactorily the University’s quality assurance work (system) functions based on UKÄ’s criteria. The review is completed and the UKÄ assessment approves the University’s quality assurance system. All requirements for the areas and grounds for assessment were deemed to be met and there will be no particular follow-up.
The assessment group’s statement includes its judgement of Lund University’s quality assurance system, including its strengths and recommendations for continued development. The UKÄ decision is based on the assessment group’s statement.
As a first part of the review, the University submitted a self-evaluation to UKÄ. The self-evaluation is Lund University’s report of how it manages quality assurance and quality enhancement of education.
You can read the full text of the self-evaluation, the decision and the statement on the Swedish Higher Education Authority's website.
The local students’ union was also offered the chance to submit a written statement, in which the union gave its view of student influence on the University’s management of quality assurance.

The national quality assurance system entails that universities are responsible to a considerable extent for evaluating their study programmes. However, the Swedish Higher Education Authority still reviews a selection of programmes.
During 2025, the following degree programmes at Lund University will be evaluated:
- The Bachelor’s degree in social work
- The Master’s degree in psychology
- A selection of engineering degrees.
In 2023–2024, a thematic evaluation took place focused on higher education institutions' work on collaboration with the surrounding community.
You can read more about the thematic evaluation on collaboration with the surrounding community at:
At the UKÄ's website, you will also find reports with results from completed evaluations, a schedule for coming evaluations, etc.
