AI at Lund University

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a powerful tool that can simplify and improve many aspects of daily work. Here we gather information about the possibilities of AI at work.

AI tools can help you write texts, analyze information, generate ideas and automate routine tasks.

Microsoft Copilot

At Lund University, it is Copilot from Microsoft that has been purchased as a generative AI tool. You can access Copilot through your regular Microsoft 365 login.

Copilot is part of Microsoft 365 which includes, for example, Outlook, Word and Excel. Whether you work with administration, teaching, research or communication, you can benefit from Copilot at work.

Here are some examples:

  • Generate texts: Create (drafts of) news articles, project plans, reports or web content.
  • Summarize: Get help extracting the most important information from long articles or reports into easy-to-understand bullet points.
  • Generate ideas: Brainstorm course or lesson plans based on the curriculum.
  • Receive decision support: Get suggestions for actions or priorities based on collected information.
  • Generate images: Create AI-generated images based on descriptions for lectures or other presentations. (Read Visual content using AI for advice regarding AI images.)

Getting started with Copilot

Copilot is available as part of the entire M365 package and can be accessed within the various applications, in slightly different ways depending on which license you have (see below). Copilot Chat is an interface that is not directly connected to any particular application, and resembles, for example, ChatGPT.

  1. Go to m365.cloud.microsoft (opens in new window)
  2. To log in, enter your Lucat-ID followed by @lu.se.
  3. When you are logged in, you will see a green shield icon in the upper right corner. When it is visible, you can use Copilot with Microsoft's data protection for businesses. But still think about what you share or whether it should be shared at all when it comes to personal data and organizational data.

Copilot in several different versions

  • Copilot Web is available to all LU employees who are logged in as described above. Copilot web works directly in your web browser. It can help you search for information, write texts, translate, explain difficult concepts or brainstorm ideas. You don't need to install anything – just start writing.
  • Copilot for Work is like a digital colleague built into Microsoft 365. You can apply for it via Lucat according to the same procedures as other software licenses. The fact that Copilot for Work is built into Microsoft 365 means it can help you write emails, create documents, make summaries, analyze data in Excel and much more. Copilot for Work costs extra for Lund University, so you need to check with your manager if you have a need for the tool before you possibly place the order in Lucat.
