Ongoing deadly violence

Although the likelihood of a deadly attack at Lund University is considered to be very low, it is important to know how to act should one occur.

Ongoing deadly violence refers to a situation where one or more perpetrators carry out violent acts intended to injure, maim or kill as many people as possible.

Escape

  • Put yourself in a safe place.
  • Leave the site as quickly and as safely as possible and avoid crowds.
  • Make a habit of noting the location of emergency exits.

Seek shelter

  • If you can't leave the area, find a place that you think is safe and will give you some protection. Pay attention to what you see and hear and try to keep calm.
  • Switch your phone to silent mode and turn off vibration alert. Do not call anyone who may be in the risk area. The phone ringing could reveal someone’s hiding place.

Raise the Alarm

Alert the police via 112. The police will need the following information:

  • Location – where did the incident take place? State the address.
  • What happened?
  • How many perpetrators did you see?
  • What do they look like?
  • Where did you last see them?
  • What weapons were used?

Warn those in danger and help those in need.

Important things to keep in mind:

  • Do not make any unnecessary calls on your mobile phone. If the network is overloaded, it can be difficult for vital calls to get through.
  • Follow the instructions of the police, emergency services and other authorities.
  • Do not share unconfirmed information online or elsewhere.
  • When the police arrive on the scene, it may be difficult for them to immediately determine who is the perpetrator and who is the victim – so avoid having anything in your hands.
  • Be prepared for the possibility of further attacks.
