The doctoral degree conferment ceremony began with a welcoming address from the Vice-Chancellor, followed by the degree conferments of the nine faculties, when new doctors and honorary doctors receive their degrees and those who completed their doctoral degrees 50 years ago become jubilee doctors. The entire ceremony is held in Latin.
The new doctors and honorary doctors receive their insignia: a doctor’s hat or laurel wreath, doctor’s ring and diploma. The jubilee doctors receive a new diploma.
Before the doctoral degrees are conferred on current faculties that stem from the original Faculty of Philosophy, the laurel wreaths are carried in by the young wreath-bearers who arrive at the cathedral in a horse-drawn carriage.
The doctoral degree conferment ceremony includes a cannon salute, a tribute to the doctors, carried out by the Wendes artillery regiment.
