Klingberg’s work Virvelvind (Whirlwind) at Sergels Torg is fully integrated into the façade of the Sergel Pavilion and depicts clues and symbols from events at and around the square. Traces of everyday activities seem to have been blown in by a whirlwind, leaving impressions in the red pigmented concrete façade. In Den röda tråden (Katarina) (The Red Thread, Katarina) planned for the New Slussen Bus Terminal in 2025, the artist’s starting point is the significant textile industry that was located around Slussen in the 1800s. A drawing of a patterned silk shawl is the departure point for the design of the waiting hall’s 4,500m² terrazzo floor.
The exhibition’s largest work, the architectural Pavilion, is created from the moulds first made for the façade of the Sergel Pavilion, thereby connecting the shared urban space with the exhibition space.
Gunilla Klingberg (born in 1966) has created art for public environments in Sweden, Norway, Canada and the USA, and participated in art biennials in several countries. Klingberg was recently adjunct professor at the Royal Institute of Art. In the fall of 2025, she holds a residency scholarship at ISCP in New York.
