Medvetenskapens Hus – an interdisciplinary focus on human science

Mirrors that are uneven to symbolize the human psyical health.

Medvetenskapens Hus is a cross-faculty initiative that aims to accommodate creative meetings between science and human science. The activities are to be based on the complex issues of our time which in a natural way affect all faculties and subject areas. Medvetenskapens Hus highlights the importance of insights above the formation of opinions and creates conditions for joint creation of knowledge.

The Medvetenskapens Hus project will be implemented in 2023 and has been allocated SEK 1.3 million.

Medvetenskapens Hus has emerged from experiences of art exhibitions that have been developed with researchers, artists and other creators. The exhibitions resulted in fruitful dialogues between research on human consciousness and development as well as artistic forms. New jointly formulated ideas arose during the process and there were requests from visitors, companies and organisations for more activities linked to the experiences and content.

Based on a concept of building from the inside-out, Medvetenskapens Hus will focus on identifying issues and creating collaborations with an aim to develop exhibitions, programme activities and courses. Another aim is to work towards widening participation through outreach installations that create experiences, awaken young peoples’ curiosity and offer paths to understanding what the University can offer.

Medvetenskapens Hus also provides an opportunity to identify the needs that may exist among researchers and departments to collaborate and test different ways of conveying new research through artistic forms in laboratory environments.

The intention is not to create a new bricks and mortar site for Medvetenskapens Hus but rather short-term activities conducted in temporary premises and through agreements with other existing places. The development work is based on various issues and the specific content will evolve in collaborations within and outside the University. External engagement will also be initiated with outside organisations such as Region Skåne, the City of Lund, education providers and industry.

The project has a steering group led by Johannes Persson, dean of the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology, and the members are Annika Mårtensson, assistant dean of LTH, Sanimir Resic, dean of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts, and a student representative.
