On Arrival Day, 15 August, the University welcomed the new international students to Lund. In autumn 2023, 4,000 new international students have been accepted for studies at Lund University. About a quarter of those are exchange students studying at Lund for a semester or a year.

The remaining 3,000 include program students at undergraduate and advanced level as well as Double degree, Joint program and Study Abroad students. The length of those students' stays varies from a few months up to 3 years.

Large student groups

During Arrival Day itself, 1276 students arrived. Many students choose to come a couple of days earlier and others come right at the start of the semester. It is difficult to say at this point how many of the 4,000 admitted students that finally start their studies in Lund. The new international students come from over a hundred different countries worldwide. The largest student groups are from Germany, China, the Netherlands, the USA, Great Britain, and France. The majority arrive just before or during Arrival Day.

Orientation Weeks

Arrival Day is the starting point for Orientation Weeks, a two-week introduction before the official start of the semester. The program for Orientation Weeks includes an initial introduction to Lund University, practical information that facilitates getting settled in Lund, as well as information about student life and Swedish culture.

Staff and mentors give a personal reception

Over 250 staff and student workers at Lund University are involved in the reception of the international students. The more than 150 international mentors make it possible to offer personal service to large volumes of students. The student-to-student contact is an invaluable asset. Nations, unions, other student organisations as well as external organisations such as AF Bostäder, Lund Municipality, SFI, the Police and others contribute to providing a good introduction to student life and life in Sweden.
