The Main University Building is set for a renovation and the project planning has now begun. The first task is to describe how a renovated Main University Building can work in technical terms in relation to the functions that are planned, all with a basic requirement to take the building’s cultural-historical aspects into account.

The aim is to have a Main University Building that is open to all, and plans include a new university-wide reception area and flexible facilities for teaching and study spaces.

The first step in the project planning is expected to be finished in the autumn of 2024. After that, the National Property Board will provide a clearer idea of when the renovated Main University Building can open. During the project planning phase, the building will continue to be used to a limited extent for the University’s events and ceremonies.

“It is exciting that we are now taking a major step towards a Main University Building that after the renovation will be open and welcoming to all,” says Deputy Vice-Chancellor Lena Eskilsson, chair of Lund University’s steering group for the project.
