The Vice-Chancellor has approved a revised version of the students’ List of Rights, which will begin to apply as of the autumn semester 2024. The revisions have been made in order to align with updates to rules and regulations, teaching hours, examination procedures etc.

List of Rights – Lund University Students’ Rights and Responsibilities was introduced in 2013 as support for students, departments, faculties and student unions. It covers issues such as study environment, course planning and assessment, and is to clarify the rights and obligations of students in the first and second cycles.

The Education Strategy Support Office was tasked by the university-wide Education Board in 2022 to work on the revision of the List of Rights. The basis for the revision was the need to for updates in line with relevant rules and regulations within Lund University. The revision has also addressed faculty-specific exemptions from the List of Rights that have been requested in the last few years. The aim of the revision has been to create a clear version of the guidelines that align with the rules and regulations, and the organisation.

Several changes have been made to the guidelines. The most important changes are:

  • Clearer references to sections of a law and other rules and regulations when relevant.
  • The department responsible takes decisions on reregistration of students after interruption of studies.
  • The rules on notification of examination results have changed and it can now take longer to mark an exam if there have been many participants.
  • Scheduled teaching hours are to be limited on weekdays, ending at 17:00, as a response to feedback from the Equality Ombudsman. At the same time, it is more clearly outlined that teaching may be scheduled in the evening or at weekends if it is necessary for the implementation of the component, e.g. for excursions or placements/clinical training.
  • Section 6 is now entitled “Independent projects (degree projects)”, instead of “Academic papers (independent projects, degree projects). It is also clarified that the section specifically covers degree projects that are required for the awarding of a first or second-cycle degree (degree projects)

The List of Rights enters into force on 2 September 2024. All the faculties have received a quick reference guide containing information on what is new in the List of Rights.
