The three pillars of student life: the student unions, student nations and Academic Society offer a broad spectrum of activities and contexts, and we are dependent on each other – because without the University there is no student life, and without student life, the University loses a major part of its soul. In order to strengthen our relationships and identify particularly important areas in which we can enhance collaboration, the Vice-Chancellor has tasked me with developing an overall student life strategy.
The strategy will focus on the areas that we can work on together and where the University has a special responsibility or opportunity to contribute through stronger collaboration. This concerns, for example, student health, the learning environment, various types of support, the introduction of new students, and student housing.
At the moment, there are several regulatory documents that directly or indirectly affect students, such as the List of Rights and policies for widening recruitment and quality enhancement. However, there is no overall strategy. Having a strategy would be important for, among other things, highlighting the significance of issues not only internally but also externally and, not least, internationally. The aim is to compile ongoing initiatives and identify the need for new strategies to give the University’s students the best possible conditions for an enriching period of studies.
Work on the strategy will be in close collaboration with the student unions and it is hoped that the strategy will be finalised by the summer.
