Nine new postdoctoral positions within the Excellence Programme for Sustainable Development

Lund University is investing in the development of leading international environments and interdisciplinary projects focusing on Agenda 2030 and sustainable development. Now the University is advertising nine new postdoctoral positions which together are to contribute to excellence in sustainability research.

“The world is not sustainable. We must change the way we consume and produce. Knowledge is needed in this transition and that means the University also needs to renew itself. Lund University wants to contribute knowledge for a more sustainable world and this investment is an element in that,” says Pro Vice-Chancellor Per Mickwitz.

Within the initiative, two projects were granted funds in the spring, LU4Water and Circular Economy: Multi-level value chain and policy dynamics for accelerating sustainability transformations.

Almost all the faculties are involved in the projects and the idea is to build up the interdisciplinary basis that is needed in order to meet complex challenges. The project is to constitute a base for national and European applications and future environments for strong research. The University also wants to offer a good career stage for postdocs. They are invited to become a part of an innovative environment within a well-defined project. The programme offers the postdocs support for career development and training in teaching and learning in higher education.

The project is now advertising positions within six faculties. All the vacancy announcements will be published on 31 August.

About the projects

LU4Water

The project brings together research from six faculties at Lund University. This broad collaboration will facilitate the drawing up of a plan for a water policy with an aim to solve unsustainable water consumption. This plan could be applied in Sweden or globally. Secure and sustainable water management is a global need and a cornerstone of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Six postdocs from the Faculty of Engineering (LTH), Faculty of Law (J) , Faculty of Science (N), Faculty of Social Sciences (S), School of Economics and Management (EHL), and Faculties of the Humanities and Theology (HT) are involved in the project.

Principal applicant: Kenneth M Persson (LTH)

Co-applicants: Britta Sjöstedt (J), Charlotte Sparrebom (N), Lea Fünfschilling (S), Jonas Nordström (EHL) and Dan-Erik Andersson (HT)

Circular Economy: Multi-level value chain and policy dynamics for accelerating sustainability transformations

Global value chains are the foundation of today’s economy, account for 50% of global trade and have enormous social and environmental effects. The project is to examine the shift from global value chains to circular supply chains, which brings with it tensions between linear and circular business models and between global companies and local actors as well as a policy perspective on deregulation and forms of governance that include environmental and social consideration.

The project includes three postdocs from the Faculty of Social Sciences (S), Faculty of Engineering (LTH) and School of Economics and Management (EHL).

Principal applicant: Markus Grillitsch (S)

Co-applicants: Fredrik Nilsson (S) and Sylvia Schwaag Serger (EHL)
