Take the opportunity to express your opinion on academic freedom

The sfinxs on the University Main building with snow on it.

All employees now have the opportunity to increase their awareness around academic freedom and influence the University’s work in the area. Invitations to discussions at faculties and divisions will be sent out during the spring.

Are we overly influenced by the demands of financiers and politicians? Are we muted by self-censorship and the Overton Window? What does academic freedom really mean, and how can Lund University bolster it?

These types of issues will be raised during the spring 2026 discussions organised by the working group on academic freedom. All employees are welcome to attend – doctoral students, teaching staff, researchers and technical administrative staff. Students will be invited to separate meetings.

“I hope that as many people as possible will want to participate in these discussions – share their experiences, their perspectives and make their voices heard. Working to protect and expand academic freedom is something we do together,” says Pro Vice-Chancellor Jimmie Kristensson, chair of the project steering group.

You will receive your invitation via your faculty, division or equivalent. If the allotted time is not convenient, additional sessions will be open to all employees. These sessions, and how to register for them, will be published on the project website soon.

The working group consists of Associate Professor Rebecca Selberg, Professor Vilhelm Persson and Senior Advisor Tim Ekberg.
