The University Library’s New Interior to be Inaugurated on 30 August

Often described as Sweden’s most beautiful building, our University Library from 1907 has now been transformed inside to better meet the needs of students, researchers, staff, and the general public. On 30 August, everyone is welcome to join the inauguration with guided tours and other activities.

The renovation of the University Library began in February 2024 and was finally completed in June. The historic building has undergone major changes on the inside. Public areas have been redesigned and modernised, more study spaces have been created, and accessibility has been improved. New areas for exhibitions and events have also been added, and the reception has been moved to a more central location.

Grand Opening for All

On 30 August, the University Library will be open between 10:00 and 16:00. Visitors are invited to explore the premises and take guided tours through the thematic collections.

The programme also includes a preview of the new exhibition Food in Need and Plenty, showcasing material ranging from ancient papyri to contemporary cookbooks.

Researcher Håkan Jönsson will give a talk on food studies on the new stage, and there will be a presentation of the Ravensbrück Archive – a UNESCO Memory of the World collection containing testimonies from the concentration camp.
