We will work broadly on sustainability in the coming years

The cover of the Sustainability Plan.

The Vice-Chancellor has now decided on a revised Sustainability Plan for 2023-2026. The revised plan contains concrete measures with a high level of ambition.

It is hoped that the revised plan will help the University achieve the ambitious goals set out in the 2019 Sustainability Strategy. The work on the revision has involved many bodies across the University: the Education Board, Research Board, Research Programmes Board, External Engagement Council, Sustainability Forum and central administration. Together, we have agreed on many concrete measures.

Here are some examples:

  • Course and programme syllabi should include sustainability issues and support for the development of course and programme syllabi should be provided (Responsible: Student Affairs).
  • In autumn 2023, a conference will be held to highlight sustainable development and research for sustainable development at Lund University (Responsible: the Research Board and Sustainability Forum)
  • A guide for sustainable laboratories will be developed, similar to Green Labs, with chemical regulations and good examples as support (Responsible: LU Estates)

The revised Sustainability Plan contains a total of 64 activities that will help us achieve the Sustainability Strategy's goal that “Lund University integrates sustainable development into its education, research, external engagement and organisational development, and the University’s employees are well aware of their roles in this work.” This concrete work will also help the University to remain a key player in the field of sustainability locally, nationally and internationally.

The work of developing the revised Sustainability Plan was well-coordinated by environmental manager Claes Nilén and research coordinator Cerina Wittbom. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for a job very well done.
