The Division for Higher Education Development (AHU) offers courses in higher education pedagogy with a focus on the development of higher education. The courses are designed to develop pedagogical skills and facilitate meetings between teaching staff across faculty boundaries. The courses are taught in English.
The courses offered by AHU during the autumn are:
The introductory course
- Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, 2 weeks
The continuation course
- Course Development in Higher Education, 3 weeks
Thematic courses
- Doctoral Supervision, 2 weeks
- Integrating Sustainability Competencies in Curriculum, 1 week
Projekt courses
- Teaching and Learning – Extension, online, 1 week
- Project Course in Higher Education Development, 3 weeks
The courses are freestanding, and you do not need to take all of them, but some require that you have taken the introductory course, and some also require that you have taken the continuation course. The prerequisites are listed on the course web pages.
You can start with the introductory course and the continuation course, and then choose courses based on your interests and needs.
A teaching position at the university requires five weeks of higher education teaching training. In order to be promoted to professor or apply for a position as a merited/excellent teaching staff member, several faculties require 10 weeks of higher education teaching training.

To become a research supervisor, you only need to have completed a research supervisor course.
